At the age of 15, a gamer girl has already saved P4 million and even built her dream house because of playing the online game Mobile Legends. Her mentor, her father.
In a segment of the TV show “Dapat Alam Mo!” by Cedric Castillo, the online gamer and livestreamer Jiji Dela Cerna (Jiji Plays) has made online games her livelihood.
“Noong bata po talaga ako, mahilig po talaga ako sa mga laro. Ang dami ko pong laro na inaalam, siguro five years old o six,” Jiji recalled.
[“When I was really young, I really loved games. I knew a lot of games, maybe five years old or six,” said Jiji.]
Her mentor and first opponent in the games is her father Jonjon himself.
“Una ko po siyang nakita kay daddy, naglalaro siya. Tapos tinanong ko kung ano ‘yung nilalaro niya, sabi niya ML daw po. Nagpaturo po ako kay daddy,” said Jiji.
[“I first saw ML with daddy playing the game. Then I asked what he was playing, he said it was Mobile Legends. I asked him to teach me to play the online game, too,” said Jiji.]
It was 2020 when Jiji Dela Cerna tried to livestream her Mobile Legends games on the ML Online page.
Her mother Nikha was against it at first.
“Sa totoo lang po noong una talaga against ako sa laro kasi nga po may school. Pero lately, na-realize ko na gusto po talaga ni Jiji na ‘yung laro niyang ‘yun, ‘yun pala rin ‘yung makakapagpatupad ng ibang pangarap niya,” Nikha said.
[“Honestly, at first I was really against the game because there was school. But lately, I realized that Jiji really wants that game, it’s the one that can make her other dreams come true.” Nikha said.]
Starting with 1.2K followers, Jiji’s followers quickly climbed to 4.1 million, as of this writing.
Because of playing, Jiji reached her dream house.
“Since noong four years old ako, lagi kong sinasabi kay mama na gusto ko po ng bagong bahay,”
[“Since I was four years old, I always told my mom I wanted a new house,” Jiji said.]
Even earning money online, Jiji still makes sure to focus on her studies.
“Ginagawa ko lang po, stream sa umaga. Tapos tulog, pahinga. After po noon, aral na,”
[“What I do is I stream in the morning. Then sleep, rest. After that, time for study,” Jiji said.]
