Ginebra's Jayjay Helterbrand retires after 17-year PBA career

Jayjay Helterbrand officially announces his retirement from the PBA after 17 years in the league.

“Yeah, that will be my last game as a player”, the former PBA MVP and other half of Brgy. Ginebra’s The Fast and The Furious confirmed last October 29, 2017 in an interview at Sports Desk in CNN Philippines.

“This is one of the most special ones for me because it’ll probably be my last as a player,” Helterbrand refers to the recent 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup Finals, where his team Barangay Ginebra won the championship.

The fan favorite Ginebra guard said he already talked to the management. He said they support his decision and will be there for him even after his career is over.

For now, Helterbrand plans to take a break from basketball and spend more time with his family. He’ll come back soon once he misses the game. According to Quinito Henson, “Ginebra offered to retire his jersey and JayJay is so thankful but he said he’ll wait for backcourt partner Mark Caguioa to retire so their jerseys can be honored together”.
